Why small dogs tremble: we highlight many reasons that are not obvious to the owner

It's no secret that small dogs tremble much more often than large ones. The owners note that they often do not see a reason for trembling, on the background of which anxiety about the health of the ward is born. You should not panic in advance, since tiny wards really tend to tremble, and for many not always obvious reasons.

Ambient temperature

Small and miniature dogs have a quick metabolism, compared with medium and large relatives. It may not be obvious, but the tiny four-legged (compared to the larger dog) needs to burn more calories to warm up. Small dogs are characterized by a light skeleton, which suggests a toned physical form, that is, a priori fat mass cannot be enough for a full-fledged independent heating. If the baby is obese, the situation is aggravated even more, because an overloaded heart cannot pump blood through the body at the right speed ... bottom line: the dog is trembling, and her health is under constant attack.

Miniature dogs are worn according to the weather, regardless of the season of the year. Even in the summer, at night or in the evening, the four-legged can tremble from the cold. The reason is the accelerated metabolism and the constant presence of the dog in the (coldest) layer of air near the ground / floor. If these factors are not taken into account and dog lounger stands in a draft, the baby can freeze strongly and catch a cold even in hot weather. In autumn and spring, the pet should be worn in breathable but warm clothes. At high humidity it is advisable to use a raincoat, and after a walk, if the pet’s hair is covered with perspiration, you need to use a soft towel or a hairdryer.

Important! In autumn, spring and winter, you need to focus not only on air temperature, but also on wind strength. A small dog is much more likely to earn hypothermia while in the wind.

In winter and in frosty weather, a small dog needs to be dressed not only on the street, but also at home. For walks you need a jumpsuit, a high collar or a closed hat is desirable, which protect your ears from the wind. Not everyone, but most crumbs need shoes with non-slip soles, because the dog’s paws quickly freeze, and when walking on ice, there is a risk of chemical burns. After each walk, the dog’s paws should be washed with water at room temperature, wipe the wool with a slightly damp cloth (to relieve static stress).

Whether clothing is needed in the home can only be judged by the dog. You observe that the pet is trying to climb higher or is on hand, often trembles, curls up - clothes are needed. If the pet moves briskly around the house and does not refuse to play, the house has a comfortable temperature. Often, small dogs freeze at a comfortable temperature and high humidity in this case, not warm clothes, but socks on non-slip soles are more relevant.

Tip: if the pet is shaking after eating, check the porridge temperature before serving. The dog may freeze after drinking cold water or if the porridge is heated unevenly.

Emotions

Small dogs often tremble on emotions for dozens of reasons. The first and most obvious is fright. In most cases, trembling with the tail tucked up is a clear sign of fear, which may be caused by:

  • Unfamiliar environment - when running away, visiting a veterinarian, traveling or traveling in transport.
  • Loud noises - shots, explosions of pyrotechnics, large vehicles.
  • People - being in the crowd, screaming, emotional clarification of relationships, noise or too active children's games.
  • Social - small dogs often tremble when communicating with relatives, but tremors do not always indicate fear, sometimes the ward shakes with excitement or joy.

Note! Dogs tremble with joy or strong feelings, for example, meeting the owner from work or after a long separation.

Raising a small dog requires a lot of patience and skill. Inexperienced owners miss many important nuances, raising a ward as a child (without training) or humiliating a pet (rude submission). In most small dogs do not realize their own dimensions and are proud creatures. Simply put, the best educational results you can achieve only when you can show patience and respect for the crumbs.

Important! Some tetrapods tremble with remorse when the misconduct is already committed, but the owner’s reaction is unknown. Be careful, this behavior may indicate the development of a neurosis.

Diseases

The observant owner studies the habits of the pet, that is, determines the condition of the dog intuitively. If it seems to you that there is no reason for trembling, and the dog often trembles or shakes constantly, you need to visit a doctor or independently rule out a number of ailments.

Hypoglycemia - low blood sugar, more characteristic of pregnant or just giving birth to bitches, otherwise, is observed in more than 8% of small dogs (for some breeds this indicator is much higher). The disease can proceed secretly and acutely, in the first case, the dog looks weak, often trembles, sometimes tremors turn into convulsions. The disease is detected by a blood test.

  • Poisoning - with any type of intoxication, the dog’s base body temperature decreases, which in large four-legged animals leads to trembling, and in small ones, to pronounced tremor.
  • Allergy - trembling is not a determining or mandatory symptom of an allergic reaction, but for small dogs this phenomenon is not uncommon. Against the background of poor health, itching and vitamin deficiency, developed due to allergies, the dog feels weak and quickly freezes.
  • Kidney disease - renal failure, urolithiasis.
  • Otitis and other ear diseases - trembling due to pain in the ears.
  • Weather and headaches - theoretically, the smaller the dog, the higher the likelihood of its dependence on atmospheric pressure.

Note! Any neurological disorder can be the cause of the trembling, and if this diagnosis is suspected, it is better not to self-medicate, but to contact a veterinarian right away.
